Fashion industry is a multi-crore global enterprise with emphasis on designing and selling the clothes. In layman’s observation, there is a difference between the fashion industry and apparel industry.
People tend to feel that high fashion clothes are designed as a part of the fashion enterprise. Like wise the general clothes or mass trends are designed as a part of the apparel industry. The best way to describe fashion is through the clothing style and accessories worn by group of individuals on special occasions.
Fashion tends to change from country to country. The dressing style will be different in top cities and there will be pricing difference on different clothing styles. Per say, on the streets of top Indian cities or in the New York high streets, the mass style designs tend to be cheaper when compared to the expensive designer fashions sold in the designer shops.

In the mid 19th century, the fashion designers (dress makers or tailors) used to design handmade clothes for every individual. This created a huge employment for millions of people across the globe.

By the beginning of the 20th century, there was a rapid revolution with the industrialization. This led to the development of the latest technologies such as sewing machines. The factory system development led to the mass production of the clothes. With this, the departmental stores offered clothing produced in standard sizes to fit different individual sizes.
In the 21st century, many countries with cheaper raw materials were able to attract the clothing production. At the same time, the labor who works in the production unit are also available at lesser wages. Though, it affected the jobs in countries like USA, it created virtual jobs in the form of supervisors for warehouses and retail outlets. This business style will allow the retail outlets to run the industry at huge profits.
Also the fashion industry is vital for the development of economy.
